- Lucy-Avis (née McElvaney) Crowe died September 16, 2002, one day before her 97th birthday, in Pompano Beach, Florida Born in 1905 in Denison, Tex., to Maud and Charles McElvaney, the youngest of seven children. Survivors include her daughter, Avis Vermilye of Taos, N.M.; a son, Charles Jr. of Payson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Crowe, minister of United Methodist Church in Wilmette from 1946-1966
