Social Happenings in Wilmette

[unclear] party was given at the [unclear] Country club Wednesday [unclear] by Mesdames Ira A. [unclear] Washington avenue, and [unclear] 723 Washington avenue. There were about forty tables.

Preceding the opening formal dance at the Country Club Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. E. Jackson Casse of Forest avenue, entertained at dinner.

Mrs. John Jenkins was hostess at a luncheon last Friday at her home, 400 [unclear] Washington avenue. Covers were laid for twelve.

A very delightful children's party was given last Thursday afternoon when Mrs. Gordon Hannah entertained informally at her residence on Greenleaf avenue for her little daughter, Virginia, the occasion being the little girl's seventh birthday.

Mrs. William Schmedtgen, 710 Greenleaf avenue, entertained her [unclear] club at a luncheon and theater party on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. and Mrs. William A. Mann will entertain the "T. K." club at dinner this evening at their home, 1121 Greenwood avenue.

Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Melville, entertained at dinner Sunday for their guest, Mrs. R. C. Edwards of Columbus, Ohio. Covers were laid for seven. Two of the guests were from out of town, Mrs. Bentley Maselich [unclear] of Evanston and Mr. P. S. Twiggs of Richmond, Indiana.

The finance committee of the Woman's club are planning a number of delightful dancing parties to be held at the clubhouse at frequent intervals. Two of these affairs have already been given, and have proved successful socially if not financially. On Saturday evening, Nov. 14, another of these parties is to be given and it is the desire of the committee that as many as possible of the young people as well as the older ones will make plans to attend.

Mrs. Charles E. Lord entertained informally yesterday at luncheon and bridge for one of her new neighbor, Mrs. Schapter of Lake avenue. Covers were laid for eight.

The card party given last Friday evening at the Wilmette Woman's club under the auspices of the Woman's Catholic Club at which about eighty were present proved a success both from the financial and the social standpoint. Among the prize winners were: Mrs. N. L. Fouts of Wilmette, Mrs. J.A. Teske of Winnetka, Mr. and Mrs. Collier of Rogers Park, Mrs. W. J. Phalen of Evanston, Mrs. J. J. Nilles, Miss Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Oelinger and Mr. Schager of Wilmette.

Last evening Rev. and MRs. B. Frank Taber entertained the members of the music committee of the Baptist church at their home, 1018 Eleventh sstreet. Aside from being a very pleasant social occasion, plans were laid for special musical features in connection with the services of the church.

Attractively printed invitations have been distributed to the men of the Baptist church and congregation inviting them to meet this evening at David Nelson's bungalo, 821 Elmwood avenue, for a social evening. A committee has in charge a program and promises that there will be something doing every minute. This is the first of a series of monthly gatherings which the men will hold during the fall and winter.

Next Sunday a unique contest will begin between the Baptist Sunday school of Wilmette and the Baptist school at Rogers Park, the aim being to see which school can secure the larger per cent of increase in attendance in the next eight weeks. The schools are about evenly matched as to its membership, and both enter upon the contest with great enthusiasm. A beautiful silk flag has been purchased jointly by the two schools and will become the permanent possession of the winning school, a delegation form the losers being sent to make the presentation. Each Sunday the two schools will exchange reports by telephone, which will be posted on the bulletin board before the schools, that all may know how the contest proceds. "Every One Bring One," is the slogan of the local school.

Mrs. Rose Jewel of Chicago will hold a sale of handpainted china the second week in November at the home of Mrs. Charles E. Lord, 515 Central avenue. The proceeds will be devoted to charity.

The annual "Harvest Home" dinner of the Methodist church will be given next Thursday at 6:30 o'clock. All members and friends of the church are invited to attend. A good program has been provided for the remaining part of the evening.

Friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Baldwin, 212 Woodbine avenue, and Mr. and Mrs. Clifton L. Keigh, 222 Ninth street, surprised them at the former's home Monday evening in honor of their ninth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Keith an Mrs. Baldwin are sisters and were married on the same day at their former home in Edgewater. There were about thirty guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick D. Day gave a dinner party last Saturday evening at their home, 810 Oakwood avenue. Covers were laid for twelve. The remainder of the evening was spent in playing auction bridge.

The Linden Avenue Neighborhood [unclear] were entertained last Saturday evening at the home of Mrs. C. C. [unclear], 1019 Linden avenue.

The junior department of the Wilmette Methodist Church will give a hay rack ride Saturday afternoon. Messrs. Mitten and Roy Kirtland will be in charge.

Mrs. M. B. Schnauder, 432 Greenleaf avenue, will entertain twenty-five of her Chicago friends at cards Saturday afternoon. A dinner party will follow.

The North Shore Golf Club will give a "fish dinner" for their members and their wives next Friday evening at the Wilmette Woman's Club.
