Ends Strife with Bullet

Continual financal reverses led David Ross Anderson, one of Wilmette's best known citizens and head of the Marvin Smith Stove Company, to take his life late Sunday night by fiing a bullet into his brain at his home, 1201 Elmwood avenue, Wilmette.
Previous to his act, Mr. Anderson had seemingly been in the best of spirits. Saturday he had played golf with his usual zeal. Sunday he was in a cheerful frame of mind.
Sunday evening he and his wife were sitting on their porch. Mrs. Anderson retired early and he told her he was going to stay downstairs and read. About 11.20 [unclear] o'clock, Mrs. Anderson called to him and told him it was late. He replied that he was going to bed at once.
Shortly after midnight, Mrs. Anderson was awakened by the report of a revolver. She called to her husband, but received no answer. Rushing downstairs, she found him sitting in his Morris chair with a bullet wound in his head. The smoking revolver was still in his hand.
Mrs. Anderson called a neighbor and notified Dr. [unclear] Conley. Everything possible was done to save the man's life, but he never regained consciousness, dying about 3 o'clock in the morning.

Coroner's Inquest
At the coroner's inquest held Monday afternoon it was shown that he had been financially interested in a large concern that failed. He lost heavily in this instance. Other financial reverses helped make him despondent.
The many friends of Mr. Anderson were greatly shocked when they learned of his act. Those who had seen him Sunday and talked with him were loath to believe it at first.

Born in Scotland
Mr. Anderson was born in Scotland fifty-one years ago. He had made Wilmette his home for a number of years and had always taken an active part in village affairs. For a number of years he served as village trustee, resigning this spring to run for village treasurer. He was defeated in this by a one vote majority. Later the election was contested, but he decided to drop the matter before it was given a court hearing.

Left No Explanation
While no written word or explanation was left for the taking of his life, teh testimony given the coroner's jury showed plainly he had been worrying over financial troubles. Some believed the losing of the recent election was the cause, but this was readily rebutted [unclear] by members of the family.
Besides Mrs. Anderson one son survives him. The funeral services were held yesterday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence. Interment was at Rosehill.
