The Village Movie Paramounts—Continued 3 they both love the same girl, Agnes Hunt, who is beautiful, but selfish and unscrupulous. While visiting Mrs. Murry, Agnes coquettes and flirts with both St. Elmo and Murry, and though she loves the latter, she decided to marry St. Elmo because of his wealth. Murry witnesses Agnes' acceptance of St. Elmo and this so enrages him that he is tempted to hurl a big stone on his rival's head, but his hand is stayed. Notwithstanding their rivalry for the hand of Agnes. St. Elmo continues to care for Murry and promises to build a church where Murry can preach when he becomes a minister. At a grand ball given by St. Elmo's mother, the engagement is announced. Utterly distracted by love and jealousy, Murry finds Agnes in the maze of dancers and leads her into the garden. There they declare their love for each other, and are overseen by St. Elmo, and upon approaching nearer he hears himself ridiculed and laughed at. His whole nature is instantly changed. He confronts Murry and Agnes, a dual follows, and at the first shot Murry is killed. For twenty years, St. Elmo Sives a life of dissipation, wandering from place to place, leaving shadows and terrors wherever he rides. Accidently he meets Edna Earle, a blacksmith's daughter. She is a sweet, unaffected girl of pure and lofty nature, hating wickedness with all her heart. Edna Earle's grandfather dies, and as she is seeking work in the cotton mills of Georgia, she is caught in a train wreck, near Mrs. Murry's home, and is carried unconscious to the home of St. Elmo. From that day, Edna exerts an elevating and spiritual influence over the soul-racked man. He learns to love Edna, but when he tells his sad story to her, she shrinks away calling him a murderer. He determines to leave all behind for other lands, but as he reaches the ship the soul of St. Elmo is regenerated, and he turns his attention to a poor and starving family, and after assisting them he devotes his life to the church and preaches in the edifice he erected for Mnrry Hammond. His presence in teh pulpit brings delight to hisfamily and friends and finally little Edna gives him her heart and hand. The production of St. Elmo cost over $100,000 and everything that money could provide and skill and artistry contribute was invested to make the production the greatest six-reel feature in motion pictures. There are six thousand feet of perfect photography, vividly clear and restful, and with the added advantage of the excellent pro- jection at the Village Theatre, the film will be particularly pleasing. It will hold you spellbound throughout.
