Village is Ordered to ay 7.950&' in Kerwin Litigation In the court of Circuit Judge Fardy on Tuesday,, a jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiff in the case of Mrs. Hope Kerwini vs. the Village of Wilmette, awardIng 1Mrs. Kerwin damages to the amount of $7,500, plus '$1,00ê ab ne-dule ler on lier con- tract with the Village. The case grew out of a contract between. Mrs. Kerwin and the Vil- iage covering the use by the latter of a dlay hole south of Wilmette avenue and west of Ridge. avenue, as a Vil- lage dump. The contract called for the use of lot No. 19, but the excava- tion also took in lot No. 20. When the first lot had been filled in, the Vil- lage continued to. use the dump, it is claimed, filling ini lot No. 20. To this Mrs. Kerwin dlaims she made protest. Negotiations over a considerable pe- riod to arrive at a settiement of the. matter failed, andi Mrs. Kerwin fin- ally entered a suit for damages. Attorneys for the Village will argue a motion for a new trial, and should' this be 'denied, wilI file an appeal. The case was1. stubbornfly contested, the. hearing beginning on Monday of last week and continuing until the verdict was reached Tuesday afternoon. Chairman Drayer explained that the purpose of the meeting was to re- ceive naines of potential candidates,ý without regard to any political or par- tisan affiliations, which suggestion$ would receive the full and free con- sideration of both the candidates' committee and the convention itself. Upward of forty names wýere .3ug- gested, indicating a keen interest ini maintaining the high quality of muni- cipal government. Chairman Drayer, before adiourn- ment, stated that this meeting did not offer the only opportunity for citizens to bring to the convention's attention the. names of neighbors or acquaint- gnces whom they consider especially .fitted for public service.
