Having finished lier scholastic work at University of Chicago, Anin Port had sougbt, iin the Wigmann school at Dresden, the training that would enable her to become- an exponent of one of the newest f orms of one of the oldest arts. Onlv those who have experienced' it at first hand, know what study in~ the Wigmann school means-the long hours of physical drill, the patient repetition of fundamental movements, the rigid dicipline of min'], body and emotion. Out of it ail cornes a finish in the modern art of the dance that can only he compared with the results obtaiined in the old 1)allet school of imperial Russia. Following ber tour %vitii Wigmann through the principal American &éties in 1932 and a brief period of engage- ment, afterward in Germany, Miss Port returned to ber native cit.v last year. She has since been seen in sev- eral of ber own dance recitals, iin- cluding a notable appearance in. Feb- ruary, 1933, at the Goodman. Members of the Mary Crane league feel that they have been fortunate in securing Ann Port as one of the principal artists for its Speciaty Night at the Evan.5ton Woman's club, Novenmber 10, a benefit affair to raise funds for th eir Nursery school at Hlull House. Herself . a voluinteer worker at H-ull Hotise, Miss Port is givintz ber talent for the occasion ^andi will be seen in two dances wvhich she is creating particularlv for that nighit. One, to bc known 1_as "Red Rhythm," ill be an exceedingl1110(1o- ernistic interpretation of one of the newest jazz tunes as played, by jack Chapman's orchestra. The other, to l)e danced ini a specially created cos- tume, will he kilown as "Velvet Shadows" and will also interpret in the impressionistic style peculiar to the Wigmann school the music of a dance orchestra number, still so new tlîat it- is not widely known. In the second rendition shie will have as lier partner Miss Eloise Moor, a Chi- caLyo dancer and a pupil of Bertha Ochsnier. illino*s Country Club Plans for 1935 Season Illinois Country club is getting an earlystart on a general reliabilitation program contemplated, to put the popular golf course on Dundee road in ship-shape for the 1935 season.
