Hicks, George A. Boylston and John' C. Kîngery, appeared in the semester re- port of "Men of Distinctive Scbol- astic Accomplishment," wbich was announced -recently by Dean. Lloyd K. Neidlinger of. Dartmouth college. The report covers the second sem- ester of the 1933-1934 term. The courses at Dartmouth are graded according to the aiphabetical system, and a perfect record of five "A's" will give a student an average of 4.0. A numerical average of 3.2, the lowest mentioned in this semi- annual report, is equal to a record of one "A" and four "B's." Hicks, wbo was graduated froin Dartmouth last June, and Kingery, Who is a senior at the college this year, both 'had averages of 3.8. Boyls- ton, also a senior'this year, had an average of 3.6. Add Horseback Riding to Intramiural Program The fall intramural sports program for boys is well under way. Tbis year horseback riding bas been added to the list of intramural sports in which New Triet boys may participate. About twenty-five boys have express- ed their interest in the sport, and at the first meeting of the horseback riding group last week twelve boys turned out. Any New Trier boy is eligible to take part in the intramural athletic program.unless he has won a letter in some sport or is varsity candidate. Other sports besides horseback riding which are included in the list of fali activities include tennis, golf, hand- ball,. horseshoes and touch football. Twenty-nine teams and more than 300 boys are playing touch football.Ping pong is to be started soon also. Girl Athietes Are Told Somnething About Lacrosse Miss Warjorie Lockley, an English international lacrosse player and ai sister of Miss Kathleen Lockley, for- mer. member of the New Trier facul- ty, gave a talk Wednesday afternoon in the stage gymnasium on the game of lacrosse, which is played exten- sivély in Canada and is becoming popular in the United States. The Girls' Athletic association of New Trier invited girl representatives from seven other schools-North Shore Country Day, Roycemore, Proviso, Evanston, Maine, Deerfield and Oak Park-to' hear Miss Lockley., Tea was served following ber talk. Faculty Drama Group Holds First Session The faculty drama c lub held its first meeting of the 1934-1935 school term Tuesday nigHt at the home of Miss Olive L. Grover, head of the art de- partment. The meetings, of the club, held once a month, are informai and are for the purpose of discussingand reading plays. W. S. ]Brown of the manual education department is presi- dent of the organization. Launch ""Mixers"* for Fathers of Freshman Boys The first of a series of "mixers"y at which the . freshman boys' adviser roomns wili entertain fathers 'of the first year boys is being beld Thurs- day night of this week in the Tri- Sbip club room. The boys of, W. J., Ascbenbach's, Gordon Van Kirk's and H.,C.. Pifer's adviser rooms are bosts to their dads this weék., There are nine freshman boys' ad- viser rooms. On October 18 (next Thursday) boys in three more of these adviser rooms will entertain their fathers, and on the following nigbt, October 19, the remaining three rooms wilI take their turn at showing dad a good time. .These meetings, which, are. strictly informal affairs, have been arranged in order to give fathers an oppor- tunity to ask questions relating to their boys' life at New Trier. Supt. M. P. Gaffney, the boys' advisers and other members of the New Trier teaching staff will be present to answer these questions.. After the discussion of parent and student problems there is an oppor- tunity for fathers and 'sons to play ping pong together. The best father- and-son team wilI be dtermined at each of tbe three "mixers" this month, and later in the school year, when a get-together will be held for ail fresbman boys and their dads, the winning teams will compete for higb- est honors. A pair of paddles will be given to the father and son win- ning the final event. Faculty Members Help "Barn Dance" Ushering Wben the WLS barn dance troupe presents its performonce Friday night of this week in the Leslie F. Gates gymnasium several men members of the faculty, under tbe dirction of Edgar B. Jackson, will assist, the boys' usher corps in handling the crowd. Miss Olive L. Grover head of the art department, is assisting. with the stage arrangements. Frisbie, faculty sponsor of the Tri-Sbip club, wbich is sponsoring the appearance of the WLS troupe, reported& Hold Tryouts This Week for DramatieClub Roles Tryouts for the dramatic clu 1b are being held Tbursday and Friday afternoons of this week under the direction of Miss Elisabetb Stan- wood, head of the drama department. Members of the junior and senior classes are eligible to compete. AI- ready plans are being made for the presentation of the club's annual fal play. The tentative dates for the piay's. production- are November 24 and 25. Last year the club gave "If I Were King." The selection of this year's ýplay bas not yet been made. MUSIC CROUP 1MEETS The junior Music club held its first meeting of the new school year Wednesday at tbe home of Sue Spin- ney in Wilmette, and on Thursday the Senior Music club met at the home of Don Brown in Winnetka.
