The season for doves and squirrels opened September 1 and will con- tinue for tbirty days. Hunters who go out, for this type of game, how- ever', are warned by the Department of Conservation of Illinois that. they nmust confine their shooting to doves and squirrels and not go to poacbing on other types of game on which the season is stili closed. In past years, with the coming of the open season for doves and squir- rels, many complaints were received that hunters were taking advantage of their outing to bag a f ew pheas- antsý and other varieties of fowl which wvere still protected by a closed season. withi the resuit that when law abiding hunters went out later to hunt phieasants, for instance, they found many of the flocks of these fine game birds depleted. 1Thomas J. Lynch, Illinois Depart- ment of Conservation inspector for Cook -and Lake counties, announces that his department is prepared to make a concerted drive this season to stop this poaching practice. There is a heavy penalty for shoot- ing pheasants out of. season. A fine of $100 and costs~, or a jail sentence, or both, inay be imposed, hie said, and the state will demand the maximum ini the case of ail violators. The pheasant season does îlot open until November 10, and then oiilv for . five days. LEAVING FOR FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs., Herbert J.
