George Thelen Wiris' Table Tennis Titie In the second annual Wilmette: Rec-, reation board Table Tennis tournament, held in the Howard school gymnasium, Gýeorge Thelen defeated Gordon Wells' 21-19, 27-29, 21-19, 21-19 to win the championship. The final match was ref- ereed by Herman Freundlicb who fin- ished in second place last year, being defeated by Bill Condy who is twelfth in the national rankings. *The Thelen- Wells, match was featured by very strong çlefensive play by both, players and an occasional burst of slashing drives by Thelen. The tournament was of double elimination type, each player> losing twice to be eliminated f rom play. Leroy E * Harvey and Clarke Kirwan f ouglit their way to the semi-finals, where eacb was elimninated in close gaines. George Thelen won a, hotly contested match f romf his brother, Joe Thelen, to decide who should enter -the finals bracket.
