The first church was broken down, and between the years 1235 and 1250 Our Lady's ing which will attract the visitor's eye, the church of Our Lady. At the same location where Our Lady's church now stands there was formerly a baptism church, which was church, a splenclid work of Gothic architecture, was built. Shaped Like a Cross Our Lady's church is a giant building, shaped like a cross. ~engthened toward the east by the chmr. In the corners of the cross are two chapels. In the interior the twelve pillars which support the vault are decorated by the pictures of the twelve apostles, a gift of Adelheid von Besselich. A sepulcher dating from the year 1531, two altars of H. R. Hoffmann dating from 1610, and the sepulcher 0f Carl von Metternich, who died in 1636, are very interesting. In the Dio.:. cesan museum is the picture of the sepulcher of Archbishop Jakob von Sierk, who died in 1456, and in the vestry is an epitaph to Johannes Segensis, who died in 1564. Behind Our Lady's church and the cathedral are the cloisters, v. hich were n,ade at the same time as the church. Several chapels are to be found along this vassage, among them Savigny's chapel, named after a clergyman, and an older chapel of Romanesque architecture (eleventh century.) In a Gothic hall of earlier date is the valuable Diocesan museum. Bishop's House Opposite · In Liebfrauen street, on our left, is the house of the bishop of the diocese of Trier and opposite, the Kesselstatt palace, which was built in the years 1740-45. The front is decorated with arms, and the interior, . with its fine ornaments, make this building really beautiful. A little farther on the left is Metternich palace, with a Renaissance porch, which is now the rectory of Our Lady's church.
