The mass meetmg was attended by about one th~usand. residents of the four New T~rer villages-Wilmette, Kenilworth, Wmnetka and Glencoe. The meeting was called by the Citizens' Tax committee appointed when the taxpayers of the township held a mass meeting at the Howard school in \\Tilmette on January 13. Hughes Presides At the mass meeting this week at the New Trier auditorium Walter C. Hughes of Glencoe acted as chairman. Mr. Hughes explained that the purpose of call~ng the taxpayers together was to_ constder .the report of the tax commttte.e appomted at the Wilmette mass meetmg. After a few pretiminarv remarks Mr. Hughes introduced H. S. 1\~a.rshal,l of Winnetka, chairman of the Citizens Tax committee. .Mr. Mars~all explained in some detall the findmgs of this committee. He sta~ed. that it was the opinion of the comm!ttee that a new representative tax commtttee should be appointed with power to act and to employ counsel to fight t~x inequalities in this townshipthat this was the only way New Trier taxpa~ers co~td hope t.o make any progress . m thetr campatgn for equitable taxation. On a motion by L. C. Ayres of Wilmette. chairman of the tax committee of .the North Shore Real Estate board, wh1ch was seconded by Leslie Craven Winnetka valuations attorney the fol~ lowing resolution, prepared by the Citizens' Tax committee, was unanimously adopted by the New Trier taxpayers: The Resolution "Resolved. That it is the sense of this meeting that the chairman be authorized to appoint a committee of three from Glencoe. three from Winnetka three from \Vilmette and three from' Kenilworth with power in the committee to enlarge its membership and with the understanding that no ~ember shall receive compensation for any service he mav render: ,:That it is the further sense of this meeting that this committee be authorized to employ counsel and such other assistance as in its judgment is necessary to file complaints with the Board of Review in behalf of all taxpayers who affiliate themselves with the comm~ttee by filing complaint in proper form w1th the secretary and treasurer with a five dollar fee to meet expenses· also that the committee is authorized to a~ pear from the decision of the Board of Review and to carry the effort to c;;ecure relief through to such point as in the judgment of the committee and =ts counsel m::Jy be deemed advisable: "Further. that the committee shall not commit any taxpayer who joins this association in the manner described to ~~ ~xpense beyond that covered . by the mittal five dollar fee without further authorization from him: "Further. that the committee shall report on its progress from time to time through the press or meetings similar to this one as may in its judgment be appropriate."
