This is an increase of 282,680,000 gallons over the previous high total for 1928 and shows an average increase in daily pumpage of 799,000 gallons, according to figures compiled by W. W. Polk. superintendent of the water works. The maximum daily pumpage record also reached a new high with 16,846,000 gallons pumped on September 4 wh;.ch was an increase of 2,700,00 gallons over the former maximum daily record. · Total Evanston consumption in gallons jumped from 2,782,296,000 to 3,035,716,000, showing an increase .of J53 420 000 gallons for the year. Wtth a t~tai estimated population of 71,200 in 1929 against the 65,600 in 1928 this was an increase of one gallon per day in the average per capita consumption, now estimated at 101 gallons. For the first time in the history of the pumping station more than a million R"allons of water w_ere pumped in one hour. July 22, from 8 to 9 p. m .. 1,115. 000 gallons of water were pumped through the station. The previous maximum hourly pumpage record was set April 16, 1928, from 6 to 7 p. m. when 924,000 gallons were pumped. The Wilmette water consumption also showed a large increase. over 1928, according to Mr. Polk. Its total consumption for 1929 w~s 484,650,000 and for 1928 was 455,390,000, showing an increase of 29,260,000 gallons.
