Empress of Britain, the 40,000-ton, 24knot Transatlantic liner that is expected to revolutionize Atlantic · traffic on her appearance next year, have planned for three circular funnels through any one of which three trains could _ be run abreast, with ~nough room left for an unwary pedestrian to get out of the way if necessary. Hitherto ships' funnels have been oval in shape and, as a rule, the third funnel was adtled merely to balance the appearance of the vessel, serving as a funnel and engine-room hatch through which bulky machinerv could be lowered into the ship. The Empress of Austraila is at present the only other three-funne11ed liner sailing to Canadian ports and is now in Indian waters on a round-the world cruise. N. T. Frosh-Soph Cagers Lose, Win in Dual Tilts )J cw Trier High school's freshman· sophomore basketball team has played two games within the last week, win· ning one and losing the other. Last Saturdav at Morton the Gray and Green took a 36 to 7 drubbing. The lop-sided score was partly due to the fact that Coach Clyde Grater was obliged to use his third team freshmen and sophomore:;, since many of the under-classme::n are playing regularly on the lightweight or heavyweight teams at New Trier. Morton does not use any freshmen or sophomore s on its varsity team. On Monday of this week the Gray and Green freshman·sophomore team trimmed the Winnetka Panthers, 29 to 15. The Panthers are a group of boys from Community House in Winnetka. and all of their players were New Trier students. \.Volff led the sco ring for the freshm en-sophomores with seve n field goals.
