The term "ProteHtantism" historically dates from an event that occurred April 19, 1529, at .a. diet convened at Spires when a protest was officially handed in by a minority which maintained that "in matters concerning God's honor and' the salvation of souls each one must for himself stand before God and give account, so that herein no one can excuse himRelf by the action or resolution of others, either more or less." Its three great principles are : The Bible alone as the rule of faith and life, Grace alone as the ground of Ralvation, Faith alone :\S the way of salvation. Not a person was approached who had not shown some interest in the program of thi~ church. HQu~e-to-house solicitation was n ot permitted. A select group, whom it was thought would be interested in seeing an English Lutheran church of broad tenets erected in our village were inYited to have a part in its program. They res_ponded nobly. Prayer meeting, Wednesday at 8 P. 1\I. T h e Historical Interlude between the Old and New Testaments will be the illustrated lecture by Dr. Wheeland. Tile correct interpretation of lhe New Testament necessitates a knowledge of the movements which produced the Pharisees and Sadducees. The heroic Maccabean period produced the Hasmoneans and Hasideans in the same fashion that modern community life crystallizes. There is an interesting parallel in Wilmette and that which produced both groups. A cordial invitation to both Biblical and Historical students.
