April 19, 1929 WILMETTE LlFB' 13 Paul Swan, Noted Artist, Exhibits at the Georgian The Georgian hotel, Evanston, this week offer3 an unusual exhibit in the original portrait drawings and mural paintings by the versatile and wellknown artist, Paul Swan. Mr. Swan, who Jtas been in New York city, will arrive in time to be present at the opening Saturday afternoon, April 20. Members of the Drama club of Evanston wilJ preside at the tea table and Mrs. Cyrus L. Garnett, president of the club, will introduce Paul Swan to the visitor3, after which he will give an informal talk, serious and humorous by turn, illustrating his interesting career from childhood to his presentday fame. The exhibit of his works wiit be in the French room and will embrace many portraits of celebrities, both in the ·3ocial and artistic world. Among the many prominent people who have set for him are: Mrs. Stuyvesant Peabody, Mrs. Leeds MitchelJ, Mrs. Edward ]. Brundage and daughter, Mrs. C. E. Estes of Rogers Park, Edwin Seipp's daughter, the son of Mrs. Aime Millet of Lake Fore'3t, Dorothy Rend, Alice Rouillier (well known in Chicago art circles) · Miss Bertha Palmer (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Potter Palmer), the niece of George Dunham. (Evanstc . resident) -also many notables of the stage, such as Madame Nazimova, George Arlis3 and John Barrymore. Paul Swan first studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later studied sculpture under Lorado Taft. He has held · various exl)ibitions, here and abroad, notably London, .. Paris, Athens, Buenos Aire'3, Santiago, Chile and New York, and everywhere received general acclaim. He has been called "the most unique personality of our epoch: Sculptor, painter, poet, playwright, dancera modern Leonardo da Vinci." His genius as a dancer was recently demonstrated at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, which won for him new laurels from a public who has admired him as a poet and painter.
