New Trier high school graduate with the class of 1928 and for three years a member of the New Trier debating teams, has been making his mark in forensic work at Harvard university, where he is a freshman this year. He was a member of the Harvard freshman team which recently debated Phillips Exeter academy. In tryouts held recently for the HarvardYale-Princeton triangular debates for freshmen, Simonds won fifty dollars for having the best tryout speech. He defeated the champion debater of New Jersey for this honor, and will be the closing ·speaker for Harvard in the debate wit' Yale. While at New Trier Simonds had an enviable scholastic and forensic record. He represented the high school in debate three years and was leader of the squad for two years. In the debate with Cleveland, champions of Ohio, in 1927 he wa's selected by Prof. Howard Berolzheimer, instructor of pub 1i c speaking at Northwestern university, as one of the three best speakers. Simonds shared this honor with one of the Cleveland debaters and with hi·.s teammate, John Erickson, New Trier senior, who is again representing the school in debate this year. Rollin Simonds is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond M. Simonds, 834 Sixteenth ·street, Wilmette. The Wilmette pupils of Miss Rapp will be presented in a reCital sometime in May.
