If these men were disposed to insist upon the application ~f strict legal principles, or if this matter were before a court, the board believes that the court would have to sustain the objections. These men who filed the petition are desirous of having equity done if this is possible outside of strict rules of law. Apologize to Objector· "The theory of a democratic government is that the fullest expression possible be given at the polls. (If the petition is adopted there can he no harm done to the objectors in as much as they still retain the right to express themselves at the polls, while if the petition is not adopted, the petitioners will have no redress and will be practically disfranchised). "The objections have been filed in good faith. With that feeling in mind, and notwithstanding the fact that the petition is probably void, and notwithstanding the fact that insufficient names are on the petition in accordance with the strict reading of the statute, the board feels the faintest doubt should be resolved in favor of the petitioners. With apologies to those who filed the objections those o.bjectiom are · o ,·erruled and th'e petition all· '" -: d and the names will be placed on the ballot. Four pupils answe~;ed all questions correctly in ·the music memory contest last week at the Stolp ·.school for seventh and eighth grade pupils. The winners were Eleanor Ricks and Mary Alice Hayes, of the seventh grade, and Chester Hanson and Ruth Wilkins, of the eighth grade. · The pupils were asked to recognize dance types and instruments and to tell the name of the piece, the name of it.s composer, and the composer's nationality. The contest was conducted by Mrs. Stella Maher, music supervisor of the Wilmette Public schools. and Mrs. Agnes Clark, eighth grade teacher at Stolp. The four pupils with perfect ratings were hard pre·.;sed by several others. The following pupils missed only one out of forty-eight questions : seventh grade-Greta vonReinsperg, Margery Simon, and E leanor Shapiro; eighth grade-Beth Mcllraith, Marjorie Seubold. Frank Eager, Roger Fridman. AnnabeJJe Brown, and Alison Burge. Those who missed two questions were : Billy Katz, Frances Schuman, and Dick Hall, seventh graders. and Edward Solomon, Jane Engel. Katherine Thompson, Roger Palenski, and Robert Werden, eighth graders. s. Vaa.Deasen . SELLER OF GO. OD FOOD SA.LE~APBIL 12.
