Johnson, 45, a member of the board of the Joseph Sears school, Kenilworth, died of a heart attack in his office, 178 West Adams street, Chicago, on Thursday, March 21. . At the time of his death, Mr. Johnson was president of the Johnson Oil Refining company, formed by him·self and his brothers in 1909. This company has advanced from a very small beginning until now it is recogniz~d as one of the leading producing, refining and marketing companies in the oil industry. Mr. Johnson took charge of the company as its active president in 1920. He was well known in the oil ind t5try and had ·a host of friends. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Elks, the Kenilworth club, Vista del Lago dub, Midland club and the Executive club. He was also' a member of the American Petroleum institute, a director of the American Oil Men's association, and a member of the Board of Education of the Kenilworth schools. Surviving him are his widow, Mr5. Laverne Horton Johnson, a daughter, Ruth who is a student at Kew Trier High ' school, and five younger children - Prudence, Horton, Homer, Isabelle, and Caroline-who are pupils at the Joseph Sears school in Kenilworth. Mr. Johnson's mother, Mrs. Sara L. Johnson, of Elmira, N. Y., three brother.;, J omes' J. Johnson, of Wilmette, r:-aac H. Johnson, of Evanston, and L Ralph Johnson, of Cleveland, 0., and three sisters, Mrs. Daniel Weaver Dexter, of Galesburg, Ill., Mrs. Frederick W. Swan and Mrs. George H. McCann, both of Elmira, N. Y., also survive him. The Johnson re·sidence is at 158 :Melrose avenue. Kenilworth. Funeral serivces were held Saturday afternoon, March 23, at 3 :30 o'clock in the Memorial Park cemetery chapel.
