CLUB'S PWNTHROPY WORK CAUSE FOR PRIDE Department Has Wide Appeal, Giving 27 Percent of Earning to Worthy Objects Probably no department . of the Woman's club of Wilmette has a wider appeal than the Philanthropy. Those who _ work therein, t.hc host of beneficiaries and tose of the club mem bers who may not be able to give their personal help, are proud that the club does more philanthropic work than any other club in the state of Illinois, giving away annually twenty-seven per cent of the club earning to the most worthy objects. . Of the beneficiaries may pe mentioned a few of the more important, such as Sarah Hacket Stevenson Memorial Lodging House, Infant \Velfare, Chicago Woman's Shelter, Dorcas Home, Indians in Montana, Mary Bartelme Home, Lake Bluff, Chicago Commons, Francis Juvenile Home, Cook County Hospital and the \Vilmette Community Chest. During the club year of 1927 and 1928 over twenty-seven thousand garments were made and distributed to the above mentioned institutions, besides seven hundred dollars given to various other charities. In addition to this the Philanthropy department frequently provides outings, luncheons and entertainment for poor mothers, dependent children and the unfortunate girls brought to their attention by the Service Council for Girls. All of this great work carried on by the Philanthropy department has been hampered by lack of operating space and storage facilities for materials; such as bolts of cloth, notions, supplies, partly finished garments and quilts or finished products awaiting removal. The new club will provide the required space and of importance it is stated that the new quarters will give a permanent place for the sewing machines thus preventing them from being thrown out of adjustment hy frequent moving which has been a constant source of repair bills. es"-By Mrs. Eva Shanks.
