Unusual importance attaches to the twenty-third annual concert of the Marshall Field and Company Choral society in Orchestra hall Thursday evening, April 4, because of the appearance with the choral society of Tito Schipa, famous Opera tenor with the Chicago Civic Opera company, who will be the leading soloist at the con. cert. The occasion will mark the last appearance in Chicago of Schipa until January, 1930, other engagements making it impos'3ible for him to be pres.er~t during the first season of the Ctvtc Opera company in its magnificent new home this fall. R. H. Harper, baritone, will divide honors with Schipa. Accompanists ·will be Grace T. Fredenhagen, Harry Carlson, and Stanley Martin, organi·st. Rehearsals are now in progress for the concert, the program this year being one of the most ambitious and attractive yet attempted. All of the members of the choral society are employes of Marshall Field's. Edgar Nelson will conduct. The program for the con cert follows : Herbert A. La Roy succeeds John Clark Baker as chairman of the \Vilmettc Playground and Recreation hoard. ~lr. Baker was the first chairman of the board anct" served from the time of it.; inception in July, 1926 to ~fay l. 1928. Mr. LaRoy has been a member of the board since ~1av 1. 1927. He presides over a committee of five members. which acts a s an advis or~· council to the director of recreation. The other members of the board include Mrs. Ja~ R. Brown, representative ·at large, C. Miles ~IcDonald. representative of the Village council, Lincoln C. Torrey, representatiYe of the school hoard. Book \York has been started on the Joseph Sears school annual. which will be off the pre'3S near the close of the school yea_r. The book this year will contain twenty pages, one page being devoted to each room and several others to the various departments. Group pictures of each room · will be one of the principal features. \Vith the exception of the half-tone work, the publication of the annual is being done Pntir~ly by J 0'3eph Sears pupils under the direction of R. ]. Finnegan, head of the printing and manual training departments. The book will be on sale at the annual school exhibit.
