Arrangements have been completed by the Woman's club of Wilmette to mail, to all the householders in the village, complimentary tickets and invitatiOI)'3 to the Better Homes exposition, which will be held in the club house from ~arch 20 to March 23, inclusive. Thi s is to be done as an act of civic service, inspired by . the same spirit . which prompted the organiza:.. tion . of this unique enterprise. There have been better homes expositions in large metropolitan centers, and many of the se have been liberalJy attended bv vi sitors from smaller communities, ~because of the facilities which they offered for the study of home equipment and decorations. The large cities have been the accepted places for displays of this kind because in them could be found a sufficient varietv of merchandise to warrant careful study and comparison when assembled under one roof. Ordinarily, such a display would not be practicable in a communitv of the size of Wilmette, but the resources of Wilmette are not limited to the stocks of its own merchants. There will be a number of very effective and interesting displavs by Wilmette institutions, but, side bv '3'ide with these, +here will also be exhibition.; of items of home equipment by prominent State street department stores, .by some of (:hicago".; most noteworthy specialty shops, and by manufacturers of artistic and useful articles for the home. Financial, real estate, and trall'sportation interests also will be represented. The object of the Better Homes exposition was explained in this way by the chairman of one of the committees in charge of the work. "Suppose," she said, "that vou wanted to decide where to build a home, how to finance the operation, how to build, equip and decorate it, so that all your ideals of a perfect home would be realized in a practical way . Just imagine the investigations you would have to make, the trips ·y ou would have to take, the people you would have to interview. and the shops that you would have to explore. · "Suppose you only wanted to make the spring cl.eaning of 1929 a really constructive iactor in the beautifying of your present home, and in making it a le ss laborious and more pleasant place in which to live and keep house. You would have to do a tremendous amount of shopping before you could be a:lsured that you were making the right selections. Mad)(. ' YOU do not know of the existence of some of the things that would add greatly to the t:omfort and satisfaction of living, or how easilv they can he obtained. The Better Homes exposition brings all these thing-s to you. You do not have to go after them. Ther will be right here. at vour own door . .with ample opportunity to studv. compare and judge , in a comfortable and leisurelv . wav. The sorial features o.f this gathering of \Vilmette people are not being overlooked, either. While the Better Homes exposition will represent a most restful and luxurious wav of studving imnortant hou el10lcl problems. ther(' wilt he ample facilities for rest and recreation. Arrangements . have been made for a continuous musical provram. and there wilt also be a cozy tea room, for chats. reunio.,s and di~ cussions of the interec;ting objects which the exhibitors wilt show. For the benefit of those who have no snrh serious purnose in mind, out who ~tilt desire a cheering cun of tea . there will he a fortune teller, skilled in gypsy lore.
