The next play to be offered by the New Trier High school Dramatic club will be presented Saturday, March 2. This Junior P lay, as it is · called, because the larger part of the cast 1s composed of members of that class, will . be a dramatization of William Dean Howell's "The Rise of Silas Lapham." This first really great American novel is the story of a New England paint magnate and his wife and daughters. Lapham loans $20,000 to Milton Rogers, his former partner. Rogers, an unscrupulous fellow, gives Lapham poor securities for the money. Later when fortune turns and he is almost penniless, Lapham is offered a partnership in a \Vest Virginia paint company which ha just found a superior grade of paint on its lands. If the securities had hcen good. he could have bought the partnership, hut wa s forced to let the opportunity pas s. At this point. Rog-ers returns fr om England " ·ith a sharly propos it :ot' which would net Lapham S\60,000. Lapham's social aspiration s and hi s daughters' happiness will he assured if he accepts. Miss Colby had been in the tuberculosis sanitarium in Springfield since last September. She graduated from New Trier Higb school two years ago, and attended Lindenwood college, St. Charles, Mo., the follov.-ing year. : M iss Colby, who was buried Monday in Springfield, is survived by two brothers, Guy Irving, Jr., and Glenn, and a si ster, M uric!, besides her parents. Among the people who went to Springfielrl last week-end to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Garretson of \Vilmette, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Leonard of Wilmette, Mr. and Mrs. Goergc H. B.
