"From Hell Came a Lady" is the rather unique title of a forthcoming picture in which Robert Armstrong is to have the leading role. The story i11 ., from a play written by the late Jaime del Rio. · · Performance Will Be Sorority Benefit . An entire performance of the current play in the Goodman theater, "Six Characters in Search of an Author," will be taken over next Wednesday night, February 6. by the Chicago Alumnae chapters of Alpha Omicron Pi for the benefit of a home for tubercular children which this sorority maintains at Twin Lakes, Ind. A capacity crowd is expected to attend, as this is an annual affair of the sorority and one of the chief methods of raising money for its local philanthropic work. Eleanor Goodrich, member of the personnel staff of Northwestern university, is chairman of the committee in charge. The active chapter at Northwestern university and the Mothers' club of Alpha Omicron Pi are uniting with the alumnae chapters to make this benefit performance as great a .success as it has been in past years. The Happy Haven home for tubercular children, which this performance will benefit, is situated near Twin Lake", Ind., and is composed of separate cottages, each one built and maintained by an organization or individual. The:,e cottages cost $5,000 each, and are. equipped with furnace heat and openair sleeping porche.; enabling the chilc!ren to live in them from early sprin ~~ until late . in the fall. "A Lady of Chance,"· with Norma Shearer in the leadin'g role, and John Mack Brown, Lowell Sherman, Gwen Lee, and Eugenia: Besserer supporting her, is coming to the Norshore this Saturday, February 2, for one week. The picture tells the tale of a racketeering girt, impersonated with shrewd humor by Miss Shearer, who is called "Angelface" by her confreres. Angelface is out on parole when the story starts. She meets-and marries for the purpose of trimming-a nice young gentleman whom she thinks is wealthy. The chap turns out to be the reverse, and Angelface starts to leave him. This time, however, her heart has become involved. Angelface says to her racketeering friends, "You wouldn't understand, but I love this guy!" And at this point the story becomes exceedingly interesting. "A Lady of Chance" was listed among the first six in the list of best pictures for December. It has both suspen se and comedy, and is smartly staged, directed, and acted. AI Kvale, master of ceremonies at the Norshore, is preparing to remind Norshore theater fans of the good old summer time which is only a few months away in his stage show next week. The show is called ·"Golfing," and AI will be assisted, as usual, by the ] azz Collegians and a clever troupe of ,·audeville entertainers. Nora Lane, a good actress who is seldom seen in pictures, is playing with George O'Brien in "Son of Anak;" ·"Submarine" will be shown at the from a Ben Ames Williams story. Alcyon theater in Highland Park for John Monk Saunders, author of three days beginning .this Sunday, Feb- "Wings," now is titling "She Goes to ruary 3. This picture will fe~ture the War," the Henry King production of submarine S-44, showing how its crew, Rupert Hughes' story. trapped at the bottom 0f the sea after being rammed by a cruiser, are slowly falling victims to the noxious air ·filling the death chamber. It will show how Telepboae UDiYenity 8511 Petty Officer Mason attempts to prevent the maddened crew from exhausting oxygen tanks while the rescue ship is still far off. Four hundred feet below the surface Diver Jack Dorgan searches for the sunken vessel and his trapped buddies. Ia Frantic relatives of the doomed men pray that Dorgan will be able to get an air line to them. The picture is said to be one of the most startling "A eomle tragedy of married life ever produced. after the baby arriTes." Miss Ralston's picture will be shown on Tuesday, and Mr. Dix's on Friday. "Sawdust Paradise" is an intimate, behind-the-scenes romance of three :nteresting and human persons. Miss Ralston and Reed Howes are ballyhoo girl and grafter respectively, with Hobard Bosworth as the aged revival - · ist. It is not a religious picture, though it has a religious angle. "Sawdust Paradise" is a bit of life from the colorful career of a carnival girl, demonstrating how a girl with a real showmanship ability uses a circus ballyhoo-steam caliope ·and all the trimmings-to put over an evangelist's meeting, and how she incidentally accomplishes a great deal of good. "Moran of the Marines," in which Richard Dix has for his leading lady Ruth Elder, trans-Atlantic aviatrix, is the story of a youth who gets into trouble and takes a few Chinese ban dits and a thrilting fight to get him back in good graces. Meanwhile he attempts to win the general's daughter and succeeds, but only after many hair-raising, humorous, and dramatic incidents. The story is by Linton Wells, a war correspondent, who, ac- I cording to advices, has "been everywhere and seen everything." An admirable cast contributes to the success of the film . 1 -NOW PLAYING- The Rachelle Studio Announces its LON CHANEY 'WEST OF ZANZIBAR' Exciting in Sound AL KVALE & BAND in "A Rushin' Revue" Clearance Sale During the month of February we are offering 20o/0 discount on our entire stock.
