The hockey game '!as to be played at Howard school where a hockey rink has been erected on the tennis courts. -------- OPEN CAGE SEASON Howard GA. boys started the basketball season Tuesday by defeating St. Joseph by a score of 10 to 0. The baskets were made by Howard Ruff, David Haas and Fr-ederick Kaspar. David Haas is captain of the second team. We are hoping for the basketball champlon!';hip.-Frederi£k Kaspa!:_. 6A ~oward. WIN HOCKEY GAl\IE The Howard 8B hockey team won its first game from 8A Howard January 10. The game was played at the Village Green. 'l'he score was 4 to 0 in favor of SB. The second was to have been played January 14, but was called ofr on account of snow on the_ ice. Thb game will probably be played off January 28. PUPILS UA. VE '!'ROUBLES At the Howard school they have to t ear out the old wall · for the new addition to the building. Some of the pupils can get to their lockers but a few have posts in front of them supporting the roof of the building and the pupils can't get their books out of them. But of course they don't mind that.-Ray Jones, SA Howard E.NJOY PUPPET SHOW The Tatterman marionettes came to the Stolp school on January 22. These marionettes came to the school last year and gave two performances, one "Jacl\: and the Beanstalk," and the other, "King of the Golden River." They gave "Alladin and the Wonderful Lamp" t:r.b year and it was a great succe:;s. 'l'h~ tickets were 25 cents.-Bob Hewitt, 8B Stolp HANDICAPPED Due to the fact that the eighth grades were ousted from their lockers on account of the new building, the rooms ha \'e been getting untidy. Art supplie~ are under seats, coats on tables in the back of the room and gymnasium shoes are all over the floor. Here's hoping we get our lockers soon. - Aibert Ackerman, S.\. Howard. PE:Xl\IANSHIP TEST Miss Geiman, the penmanship teacher, gave the eighth grades of the Howard school a penmanship test. We compared the papers with the ones that were written in September in order to see how much we had improved if at all. Miss Geiman is going to make a chart showing the improvement.-Evelyn Howard, SA Howard. URGES CAUTION All this ice on the sidewalks and streets is very dangerous. Crossing in front of cars is bad because sometimes they can't stop. On sidewalks it is best to be careful, for it is easy to break an arm or leg by slipping. Anyway it was easier than slipping along on the ice.-James Kraft, 8B Howard NEW GYM APPARATUS The Howard gymnasium has some new apparatus for physical training. There are both horizontal bars and parallel bars. Hap C~:tthercoal the gymnasium instructor is showing us some simple things on them. A punching bag is to be put up on the west wall soon. We a ! ~ o have two new tumbling mats.L e:, Blaylock, Howard 8B BEGIN LEATHERWORK The eighth grade boys of Howard school have started in leatherwork. The Manual training· shop is torn up so that work is impossible. The 8B's had their first lesson Tuesday, January 8. Our first project is a key container but afterward we will make bill folds, belts, and other objects.-James Kraft, Howard 8B. I.IKE NEW CALENDARS The Schultz and Nord cleaning plant gave out big calendars to all the school rooms. They have all the presidents of the United States on up to now with Herbert C. Hoover in the center, a little larger than the rest. The colors are red, white and blue.-James Kraft, Howard 8B. WINTER AND BOOTS Winter time brings on high boots. There are five pairs of high lace boots in 8A Howard. One boy Is Scotch or exclusive enough to wear steel plates on his heels.
