WILMETTE . LIFE · December 14, 1928 They Danced for Visitors at New Gymnasium School Pupils Hear Groups of Poems by Mrs. Oscar Foster Mrs. Oscar Fo5ter of Beloit, Wis., read and interpreted several poetry selections for pupils of the seventh and eighth gades at the Stolp school Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Mrs . Foster was here as a guest of M i5s Grace Gayton, school librarian. She read a number of poems by ~Iasdield, including "Sea Fever," ~nd one by Saril Teasdale. "Snow Man," "Scare Crow." "Friendship," and "Little Batiste" were among the s'elections most popular with .t he children. After reading Joyce Kilmer's "Trees," Mrs. Fo5ter gave several poems from Mountsier's collection, "Singing Youth,". paying particular attention to one which she compared with "Trees." "Singing Youth" is a collection of original poems by children of all ages and from various states of the Union. The poem from this group which Mrs. Foster compared with "Trees" wa~ written by a child about the age of her seventh and eighth grade listeners. At the conclusion of the program presented bv Mrs. Foster one of the Stolp school teachers remarked that the rich, melodic tone of- her voice made her reading a fascination to her audience as much as the poetry selection5 thetpselves. Mrs. Foster is. a contralto singer, and although she usually ap- · pears before adult audiences, she is fond of children. Thi5, according to a teacher who heard her, was noted by the radiance which she reflected as she talked.
