A representative gathering of parents, almost as many fathers as mothers, attended the evening meeting of the Logan-Howard Parent-Teacher association Tuesday, November 13. With "business as usual" conducted bv the officers of the orgaJ]ization, .an inspiring program was provided in the songs by Rollin Smith, accompanied by Mrs. Smith, and the talk of Dr. George D. Allison of the Wilmette Baptist church. Giving a report of the district coilference of the P. T. A., Mrs. J, W. Behr. quoted the aim of the associa- · tion, "To create public opinion for higher standards of national life." Quite in line with this aim is the subiect of ·Dr. Allison's talk, uA Simp!e Religion for the Home," by which he wished to deepen some impressions and consecrations. Beneath differences of race and creed. all mankind inher.its the basic religion of one God, and the commandment to love our neiQ'hbor, and no one is acceptable to that God unless he is a good neighbor. The duty of all narent_s is to provide the spiritual heritage for their children. making religion verv precious in their memories of childhpod. Every boy's father is a hero to him. and the father who brings his best thoughts and achievements to the home circle, who cultivates comradeship with his son and play~ with him, is a powerful influence in the life of that son. The happiness of Sunday as a day for home and family needs to be revived. and the simpler pleasures of afternoon walks and reading of worthv books should not be supplanted by automobiles and comic supplements. M usic and singing by the home talent need not be crowded out bv "Canned" varieties, and the art of telling stories mav he mastered by repeated efforts. Home, as the place where the best fun of all is to be had, should not be too "nice" for the g-rowing bov, but pro\'ide some place that is truly his own. With a sense of humor and a sense of proportion to make atlowances for everv member of the f;lmilv. it should be possible. as Dr. Allison said, "to grow a little religion our~ selves."
