Continued interest in parental education on the part of north shor~ mothers has resulted in the opening of an advanced course in the subject at the National Kindergarten and Eiementary college this fall. Mothers enrolled in this class, "The Child and Society," as well as those in the opening course, HProbleins in Child Behavior," which is being repeated this fall , are especially interested in the work of the child study clinic in dealing with probThe lems of the individual child. services of the clinic are not restricted to children enrolled in the Children's school, and are at the disposal of mothers in the classes. for the study of any child who presents an unusual problem. The courses include lectures by Miss : M artha D. Fink, director ·of Parental E ducation , president Edna Dean Baker and other members of the college facultv, and the curriculum is arranged to cover various points suggested by members of the classes as being of immediate importance to them. In addition to this work for mothers, a course in parental education is being given this year for the first time for advance~ students of the college, who will have to conduct mothers' classes when they go out as teachers. In this connection it is interesting to note that the Board of Managers of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, which met recently, urged that coJleges g ive special attention to the problems of parenthood and home-making and that teachers' colleges incl~de special training to prepare their graduates to lead parental education groups in local communities. .. Every person who visits the Art Institute is eligible to vote in the contest, with admi·3sion free to members of. the legion who present their $5 membership certificates at the door. An admission charge of 25 cents is made at the Art Institute daily except on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Two ·hundred posters, the best among about 1,000 3Ubmitted from artists in every state in the union, and several European countries, are now on public .e xhibition at the Art Institute. They will remain on view until the morning of October 17, the. prizes to be awarded on November 12. The prize for the poster which the judges in the contest select as the official design for the centennial i3 $1,500. In addition there are prizes of $500, $250, $150 and $100. Another prize of $1,500 will be awarded to one or more artists residing outside the Americas, or used to augment other prizes. Among the judges in the contest are Vice-President Charles G. Dawes, Jules Guerin, chief of color, PanamaPacific International Exposition, Dr. Robert B. Harshe, director of the Art Institute; Eugene F. Savage, professor of painting at Yale university, and Lorado Taft, of the National Commission of Fine Arts for the United States of America.
