"Speedy" will be shown on Tuesday, September 4, and "Partners in Crime" on Friday, September 7. "Take every member of your family," is the advice of one theater critic who comments on "Speedy." It is ~ Harold Lloyd picture, an ingenious and high-powered comedy. There are clever, rapidly moving gags, wild stunts, and tense action. Ann Christy in the leading feminine role is wistful and cunning, but has little chance to display her ability, because it is wholly Harold Lloyd's picture. Mr. Lloyd took a year to make it, and it was time well expended. Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton, the starring comedians, provide new laughs and a few thrills in their underworld venture, "Partners in Crime." Beery is a detective who discovers much, mostly by accident. Hatton plays the double role of reporter and gang leader who are constantly mistaken for one another. NEW MOVIETONE PLANT A new movietone plant at West· wood, Cal., for the production of talk-' ing pictures is to cost $1 ()()() 000. The Fox Film company will build it. And meantime, one by one, Chicago theaters are installing the talking apparatus, much to the displeasure of musicians· and others whose toes have been stepped on with the coming of the "talkies." ·at·· Frankie Says,. ~~All Aboard/" Happy/and Is the Destination "The Garden of Eden," with Corinne Griffith, Louise Dresser, Charles Ray, and ·others, comes to the Norshore this Sunday for one week. It is a light and whimsical comedy drama, all very spirited and charmingly presented. The story goes like this : Toni Le Brun (Miss Griffith), a baker's niece, receives a musical diploma and leaves Vienna for Budapest, believing herself engaged to sing in grand opera. Instead she finds herself booked to entertain, in a naughty cafe. The wardrobe mistress, Rosa (Miss Dresser), is her only friend, and spirits her away, after Toni has had an alarming and somewhat amusing encounter with one Monsieur D'Avrilimpersonated by Lowell Sherman as Lowell Sherman 'WOuld impersonate such a Monsieu-r. And-lo and behold !-the wardrobe mistress turns out to be not JUST the wardrobe mistress, but a somebody of considerable more importance. She takes her charge to the Hotel Eden at Monte Carlo, where Mr. Ray enters their lives. And the rest the picture will teJl you. As a stage diversion next week the Norshore is offering Frankie Masters in "All Aboard." Frankie is going to be captain of the ship which will take his audience of Norshore patrons to happyland. Dancing sailors in the persons of pert little maidens will entertain. Theater-goers who were turned away from the Chicago theater when Our Gang was in town recently will be pleased with the announcement that the youthful screen comedians have been persuaded . to return to Chicago and appear at the Norshore.
