Some people think that the number thirteen is unlucky but the Chamber of Commerce and the merchants think differently. They thought that the thirteenth Dollar Day was the best and biggest Dollar Day Wilmette had ever had. vVilmette holds Dollar Day twice a year, one time in the winter and one. in the summer time. The Chamber of Commerce always has had charge of Dollar Day. Most of the merchants who belong to the Chamber of Commerce co-operate in making the day a success. The value of Dollar Day is that you can get more for a dollar than you can on any other day of the year. It increases trade with the merchants. The people get acquainted with their village and neighborhood stores. The merchants don't make as much pro~t as usual . because when they don t have Dollar Day they sell things ~t a higher price. It encourages buymg at home because then you find out what Wilmette really sells and otherwise you might have . to do down to Evanston or Chicago to buy the merchandise you wanted. As soon as we came to the office of the. Chamber of Commerce, Miss Irene Stnc~ler, who so kindly gave us the above information, asked us what we wanted and we told her we wanted an . interview for Dollar Day. Miss Stnckler was very nice and told us everythin~ ~e wanted to know. We got all thts mformation from the kindest Secretary of a Chamber of Commerce there is, Miss Strickler.
