Catch Eight Youths Stealing in Vicinity Eight Chicago youths, ranging in a~e from 12 to 17, were r~unded up thts week by Wilmette poltce officers ~s they ·attempted to steal from the Wtlmette Golf club and from an abandoned car at Hibbard road and Lake avenue. , · On Mot~day night about 9 o'clock Officer Joint caught four boys, !he oldest only 14, in the act of steah~g golf clubs and balls from the Wt!mette Golf club. The boys gave thetr names as Joe Pantyka, 13, of 884 North Hermitage, Stanley Mitchell, 14, of 1217 North Lincoln, and two brothers, Joe Skupien, 12, and William Skupien, 13, both of 835 North Hermitage. The parents of the boys were called and the ·youths were ordered to keep out of Wilmette . The following night at about the same time Motorcycle Policeman George Schaeffer and Officer Poppet caught four more Chicago youths _ as they were stripping a car belonging to Tonv Campanale, of Winnetka, which had been wrecked in an accident the day previous and was left at the corner of Hibbard road and Lake ayenue. The boys said theit1 names were: Dan Trimmer, 15, of 7252 Pingree stre~ Fred Sch·w ab, 16, of 7248 Pingree street, Carl Nelson, 15. and Gordon ~elson, 17, both of 2316 Greenleaf avenue, Chicago. The opportunities to enjoy beautiful things are so many in this fortunate community in which we live that we accept them as a matter of course and seldom realize that all communities are not so favored.' I thought of this last Sunday when I ·entered a church on the south side of Chicago. My eye unconsciously sought the altar to see the flowers. What I saw was not pretty. A tall container of small diameter held a huge bunch of dull pink phlox whose stems were so tightly crowded together that one wondered that the flowers remained fresh. Whoever arranged them could not have cared for flow~.rs. They looked crowded and uncomfortable. When I reached home, the first thing that my eye fell upon as I entered the house was a basket of magnificently arranged flowers that had been sent over after the services from one of our Wi lmette churches. for the benefit of the Plant, Flower. and Fruit guild. The flowers were simple ones-pink, gladioli, lavender and white stock, blue larkspur, and lilac buddleia. But the arrangement was the thing. An artist ,,·ho loved flowers had created something yery lovely with these flowers for her medium. That basket of flowers must have seemed like the spirit of beauty, on the altar in the morning, offering a gracious welcome to all who came.
