Curb Skeeter Nuisance An ordinance providil)g for ·the prevention of mosquito propagation was passed by the Village board at its regular meeting Tuesday evening. The ordinance provides that it shall be unlawful for any individual or corporation in the village to have .on their premises standing or flowmg water in which mosquitoes breed or are likely to breed. Unless such c.ollections of water are treated accordmg to methods approved by the Commissioner of Health of the village, steps will be taken to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes on such premises, and the costs charged to the person or firm responsible, the ordinance states. In spite of the bare look of many gardens just at this time of the year, there was 1 surprising wealth of bloom, particularly of gladiolus and zinnias . . Following a brief, instructive talk or. "Gladiolus" by H. C. Pifer of the club, Mrs. Frederick Fisher, ·president of the Illinois Garden club, guest of honor for the evening, and one of the judges, commended the club for its organization and expressed the wish that it would be a model for others of the same type on the north shore. Praises Exhibit Mrs. Fisher was particularly enthusiastic about exhibits by Mrs. C. D. Ewer which received ribbons of all colors. One was a "before and after .. exhibit displaying a large basket filled on one side with vegetables and on the other with representations of calla lilies, brown eyes Susans, and daisies fashioned from various vegetables. The other showed water lilies similarly made and exhibited in a chopping bowl. Mrs. Fisher, together with Mrs. Harry Peters and Mrs. Paul L.
