Will& ·Honors in . western university Medical school for ,"· Contest many years and treasurer of the AmerPoetrJ ican Society of Zoologists, has been Marjorie Braymer, student at New Trier High school, has achieved un· usual honors in the litf'rary division of The Scholastic Awards, annual contest for high school students, sponsored by The Scholastic, national high school magazine, in which 20,000 students from every state in the country participated. Miss Braymer was awarded honorable mention in the Witter Bynner Sc~olastic Poetry contest. Announcement of the awards came from Dr. W. M. Davidson, Superintendent of the Pittsburgh Schools and chairman of the national committee of educators who conducted the contest through The Scholastic. Miss Braymer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest S. Braymer, 1230 Central street, Evans~on. The judges of the Witter Bynner Scho~stic Poetry Contest were Witter Bynner, poet; Orton Lowe, Pennsylvania State College; Hugh Mearns, novelist, author of "Creative Youth" ; and Charles Swain Thomas, Professor of English, Harvard Graduate School of Education. The purpose of The Scholastic Awards is to promote and stimulate the development of· Pictorial and Graphic Arts, and literature and drama among high school students. This year $3,000 in prizes was awarded to students in various high schools in the different divisions of the Awards. Sorority Scholarship ia I .ower; Still Ahead of Men Northwestern University sorority coeds have this year failed to keep up the brilliant scholarship record established last year,··but still are far ahead of the men, reports for the first semester of the current year, issued this week by Miss Katherine George, registrar, show. The high average reached last spring by the co-eds was 1.6123 out of a possible 3.0 points. This year, however, the average sagged to 1.4625. The fraternity men of the campus average only 1.1343, being slightly bested by the non-fraternity men who maintained an average of 1.2313. Zeta Tau Alpha leads the sorority list ·for scholarship with an average of 1.8262. The next five in order are Aokiga, 1.7343; Alpha Gamma Delta,. 1.6522; Alpha Chi Omega, 1.6365; Kappa Sigma Tau, 1.5873 ; Alpha Phi, 1:5823. Confiscate Millions in Chicago Taxes Annually From 28 to 30 millions of dollars are taken from taxpayers in Chicago each year by a process of confiscation through over-assessment of property, Prof. H. D. Si!llpson, of the i.nstitute for research m land economtcs at Northwestern university, declared this week after extensive studies of real estate assessment in Chicago. The extreme inequalities in assessments indicate, he said, that the board of review has failed completely to function as a board for equalizing the assessment of prppertt in Chicago.
