Scheidler the seventh and eighth grade girls, dressed in colorful gypsy costumes, presented a musical program. These songs of various countries are part of a study of the life of the gypsies : Gypsy Song, Juanita-Spanisb Selection, Santa Lucia-Italian Melody, Howard School · Loyalty Song. Immediately following these selections Dr. Lee Alexander Stone, famed as a lecturer and author on medical matters, gave a very inspiring talk on "The Youth of Today." He prefixed his lecture with the consoling thought that the problems concerning the handling of youth were problems all through the ages. He cited an editorial which appeared in the Liberty magazine that explained in a very humorous way that as far back as Methuselah's time youth perplexed old age even though the span of life ran in the hundreds. The young girl treats the young man as a pal. As for youth losing sight of God, Dr. Stone says youth is only revolting against religion as it is presented and is seeking for a new phase of theology. The crime wave that everyone is concerned with, Dr. Stone states, is no greater in Chicago in proportion to ·its population than in any other part of the country. "Our biggest trouble with youth is our failure to regulate . the economic problem of youth. Give youth a complete explanation of cause and effects and then let him decide his own course of procedure. No threat or punishment ever prevented a crime. Let ·youth alone ; he will settle down." s·oald T.
