Schaefer, Wilmette Pioneer Peter ] oseph Schaefer, 64, a native of the former Village of Gross Point died Friday night, March 25, shortt; after he was struck by · an automobile driven hy Matt Thalman , of \Vilmette, ncar the intersection of Ridge and Washington avenues. Mr. Schaefer was crossing Ridge avenue when hit by the machine which was traveling south on Ridge avenue. He was taken to th~ Evanston hospital and di ed within a icw hours. A verdict of acciclental death was returned at an inqu es t held Saturday morning at the Schaefer funeral parlors in Evanston . ~r r. Schaefer was well known 1hroughout the north shore through 'his bu siness as a carpenter contractor . Hi s hom e was at 1501 \Vashin~ ton a\·e nue, where he had lin~ <l continuou s ~\- for 39 vears. He attended St. Jo seph' s paro~hial school ancl en .. t creel the carpentry trad e at the age of 15 Years . Leary, Cashier of the \\.ilmette State Bank. do Pupils Employ Books as Guide in Handicraft Work All of the books on handicraft in the \Vilmette Free Public library have been placed on file in the children's room where they arc now being utilized by the boys and girls in making different articles, such as boats or fancy ·work, according- to Miss Winifrrd Bright, children's librarian. Am· child wishing- to make something- may consult the books where he can find plans and directions f0r doing- so. While the proposition is not a contest, the children are nevertheless urged to take advantage of the opportunity and to take their finished articles to the librarv where they will he placed on exhibition.
