Put in order for weather and got just what I wanted. It cannot be beat. Nature is putting on her new coat of green. Everywhere Spring is being heralded. It' s a beautiful transformation . Played m y us ual good game on the links, scoring an 8 g. Played with R. J . B. and wife. members of a Chicago club. Their first visit here. De lighted. Going to stay until April. Own grove here. Played shuffle -board with Mrs . Life and other guests under electric lights . . Great sport. Feb. 4· Another ideal day . Ate hearty breakfas.t. Made up foursome on links. Mastered that fourth hole at last. Parred it today. Feel good about it. This course brings out the best in a golfer. Many playing. Fine class of people. More like home. Picked tan gerines from tree on Inn lawn. Wonderful treat. Made 1 9 on lawn putting green for 9 holes. Good practice. Everything h ere for convenience and pleasure of guests. Feb . 3· Feeling tip -top . Took earl y morning trip through groves. Picked grapefruit from m y trees. Valencia oranges on m y trees doing fine . Met many guests from Inn motoring ~hrough groves. Made up party to bowlIng green . Had several games. Ladies think it great sport. Almost as fascinating as. golf. Have wonderful bowling green . L1ke green carpet. One of three in state. Bowling becoming popular sport. En joyed smoke after supper on veranda. Finished evening with bridge. Feb. ;. Surpri sed to meet an old friend from Ev anston who arrived here last evening. Had long chat. Says that he knows of num ber of Chicago people coming here this · month . Think we ought to have Chicago club in Davenport. Our city well repre sented among guests. All say it's best place to spend winter. Like it more every day. Plenry of outdoor life and exhilarar ting air. This evening so delightful we played bridge on veranda. Feb. 7. Heavy dew on grass and flowers look like mvriads of diamonds in bright sunshine. .M.rs. Life and self spent much of morning studying shrubs and palms on lawn. A regular course in botany. Attended proamateur tournament on Holly Hill links in afternoon. About forty of best golfers in pro and amateur class competed. Treated to some fine golf playing. George Christ, the pro here won individual low ball over the whole field. This is weekly event in Polk County. Much interest shown by pia yers. Feb. 6. After breakfast left with party of friends for trip down Ridge. Fine paved highways all the way. Continuous grove country. Wonderful hills and many · lakes. · Again visited Mountain Lake Park enroute. Rode to top of Iron Mountain. said to be high~st point in Florida. All sections along Ridge look prosperous. Groves in fine condition. Stopped at Highland Park. another exclusive winter colony. Returned in time for appetizing supper. Drove 128 miles, every mile over paved roads. Feb. 8. Awakened by mocking bird singing near my window. Must be getting sentim'e ntal. Enjoyed his song so much I listened for quite a spell. Churned me. The Spring weather permeates my whole body, settles in . my soul and produces that youthful spirit. This is surely the Fountain of Youth. It's in the air- in the water....,.-in the orange juice - it 's everywhere and the spirit spreads among those who come here. It's not a myth- it's a reality. Florida is sure the land of rejuvenation.
