It was treated with distant awe when it was treated at all, and to most people art was a subject as strange as life on Mars, and artists were proverbially poor. Today artists thrive and art has filtered into many more modest homes in the form of paintings and sculpture and other original works of art, and the art spi.rit prevails in even more homes in objects of every da y use. Each opening exhibition mean s additional opportunity to buy, and the Hoosier Salon which opened last Saturday has drawn many buye rs of art and prospective purchasers. Attracting the inter es t of north shore art patrons is this Hoosier Salon, wh ich has dominated Chicago art circles since its opening and th e salon ac tivities center todav on residents of the north shore in "North Shore Day." There will be a tour of the galleries at 10 :30 o'clock this morning. conducted by Lucie Hartrath, one of the exhibitors, and this afternoon is Old De Pauw day. The special hostrsses for the North Shore day will he Mrs. \Villiam A. Kendrick, 1\frs. Ernest Freeman and M.rs. Paul . R. Leach, all of \iVilmctte. Mrs. Carl P. Ralph Fletcher Seymour brings honor to n·o rth sho:·c art in winning with his nine etchings, the Frank Cunningham prize of $200 for etchings. Junior Auxiliary Plans · Woman's Club Will Give Dance Tomorrow Night for Annual Benefit Ball The Woman's club of Wilmette is giving the next of . its subscription dances at the club tomorrow evening, to which members and their guests have been invited. The dance is to start at 8:30 o'clock. The announcement of this dance will be received with pleasure, for the subscription dances in the past have been most successful. The proceed ~ · go into the building fund. An evening bridge party is b eing planned for Satu_ rclay evening, Febru ary 19, to 'vhich the members and their hu sbands have been invited.
