Be Fooled by the "Political .Magicians" you've watched magicians work. You know _how they do it. ~hey dr.aw your attention to something. that .will. hold your tn~erest for the ttme bemg so that they can put over thetr matn trtck uu you a httle later. The No-Flat Issu~ Used By These "Magicians" i The tactics of our opponents on the so-called lion1e Ticket can well be compared to those of the magician. They knew they could get ~he attention of every vote·r in Wilmette by raising the no-fla~ Issue .. There .ts ~o ~u~h issue. The present adininistration has shown by tts acttons. t~at It 1s tn favor of every legal measure that can be taken to keep flat butld1ngs out ·of our village. What Is Back of This Political Trick? What are these political magicians on the Honie Ticket trying to do? What is their "Main trick" that they vvant to put over on the people of Wiltnette? Let us see. The Home Ticket was originated by members of the Wilmette Engineers Association. ~Ir. Drayer, Mr. Wiedlin and Mr. Baker owe their nomination and their support to this association, either directly or indirectly. The Engineers Association is opposed to the present Electric Lighting Ordinance. Their candidates, if elected, would naturally be opposed to this ordinance. · They would have overhead wires and unsightly wooden poles throughout our Village instead of modern underground conduits as specified in our present ordinance. They would have the Village of Wilmette contract to buy the current for our street lights from the Public Service Corporatio~ instead of from the Sanitary District as provided by our present ordinance. Why? Note the Difference in the Cost to Taxpayen Public Service C.a.t per year to Wilmette ............ $ 35,HO Sanitary Diatrict Coet per year to Wilmette . . . . . . . . . . 11,111 The Engineers Association and their candidates on the Home Ticket would ask Wilmette to tie up to the Public Service Corporation and pay them $35,000 per year for the same· current that the Sanitary District will furnish for $18,000. Why? It may be interesting to you to know the names of some of the individuals who have opposed the present Lighting Ordinance, and who are responsible for the ' unnecessary delay in giving Wilmette a modern street lighting system? Here is a list of a few of them taken from the records of the County Court: W. W. DeBerard C. E. Henderson W. A. Melchior C. E. Drayer J. C. Martin Mrs. J. M. Vernon Henry W. Fowler bonald A. Maxwell John F. Weedon A. D. Gash A. A. McKeighan The- Board of Trustees has been compelled to oppose the policies ·of the Public Service Corporation and the Engineers Association in the past.
