This Scout Hike Bears Touch of Genuine Winter Skating for miles along the Fox river, fighting a snow and ice blizzard ami taking pictures from the top of a ski jump two hundred feet high were the sports enjoyed by a party of five :Boy Scouts of Kenilworth Troop One last week-end. The boys were: Carl Carlson, George Kriety, Frank Watt, Dean Vail, Bob Sweet, and Bob Townley, the scoutmaster. The boys made their headquarters at the home of Carl Carlson near the Fox river grove thirty miles northwest of Chicago. Another hike to Fox river is plat\· ned for Washington's birthday when a bigger {)arty is expected to attend. If the weather permits, tobogganin1 and skiing will be sport features of this trip. In the meantime the finish of the patrol contest will furnish plenty of activity for the Scouts. At the las~ meeting this month the points will be added and the prizes awarded. The winning patrol will receive the first leg on a silver cup and the five highest ,point makers medals given by tTie troop committee. At present the Stags are leading, followed closely by the Eagles and Beavers but the race is still anybody's. Points are awarded as follows: attendance at meetings, I; attendance at day hikes, 3; attendance at special hikes, 10; contests, 5; tests passed, 1 ; merit badges, 3; victory in a patrol cont.. st earns 20 . points with other points given for special events in accordance to their importance. Another interesting Scout event comes at the first meeting in February when parents of the boys w1ll be invited to an informal rally to see what the troop is accomplishing.
