- The preliminaries for the National Geographic Geography Bee began last week, and tonight (at 7 p.m. in the Nygaard Auditorium of the school) the overall finals will take place. Tonight's winner will advance to take the qualifying test for the state final in April.
•On Jan. 9, the school hosted its annual parent visitation day. On this day parents came from 8:30 a.m. to noon and sampled an abbreviated day in the life of their child. The parents were mailed an invitation that included a copy of their children's schedule, which they followed that morning.

Jan. 19 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day, no school.
Jan. 20 -- Joseph Sears School Parents Volunteer Association board meeting, 8:30 a.m.
Jan. 20 -- Board of Education meeting, 7 p.m.
Jan. 22 -- Family science night, 6:30-8 p.m.
Jan. 23 -- Basketball pictures/uniform return, girls HC, 3:30 p.m.
Jan. 23 -- Basketball pictures/uniform return, boys HC, 4:15 p.m.
Jan. 23 -- Basketball pictures only, boys and girls competitive, 4:15 p.m.
Jan. 30 -- Basketball uniform return, boys and girls competitive, 3:30 p.m.
