Board of Trustees

Free Public Library

Wilmette, Illinois

Dear Sirs:

Acting on behalf of Mr. A. J. Howell, of New York, I herewith withdraw the offer made some time since of ground for a site for the proposed library building.

This offer was originally made with the belief that the people of the village would be pleased to accept as a gift a site as well as a building. Sufficient time having elapsed since the offer, Mr. Howell will not further consider it, unless convinced that it is the desire of a majority of our citizens to accept it. To determine that, it would be necessary to have some expression independent of any other proposition. In the absence of provision for such expression, the matter will be considered closed.

Very respectfully,

C.H.Rush
