PCA-Chicago, a chapter of the national non-profit Positive Coaching Alliance, has named Regina Dominican student Rebecca Sutcliffe and five Chicago-area high school student-athletes as winners of the organization’s Triple-Impact Competitor® Scholarships Presented by Deloitte LLP and Thrive Foundation for Youth.
At a Sept. 7 event at US Cellular Field, each received a $1,000 college scholarship for best exemplifying PCA’s model of the Triple Impact Competitor: Personal mastery, making oneself better; leadership, making one’s teammates better; honoring the game, make the game better.
“It’s great to know that we are being recognized for the things we do to make the games we love better,” said Sutcliffe. “These are the little things that make the difference, and these are the little things that are going to make the difference in what we do when we go onto college.”
Sutcliffe is currently Regina’s Student Council President and she is also a member of the Ambassadors Club and Latin Club, Campus Ministry Team, Mathletes, and the Panthers Varsity basketball and volleyball teams. Sutcliffe is also actively involved in her parish, St. Juliana, in Chicago. “It’s nice to give back to my parish,” she said. “Helping out allows me to reconnect to my faith and that’s important because God has given me all of this.”
Mary Stenson, a Math teacher at Regina, works closely with Sutcliffe for Student Council activities. “Rebecca is a consummate leader,” said Stenson. “She is dedicated to enhancing the Regina Dominican High School community by her own actions as well as engaging and challenging her fellow students to get involved and show their Panther pride and spirit. Rebecca is an asset to her school, her community, and her family.
