North Shore Country Day sophomore Juliette Corboy brought home eight medals from national diving competitions held this summer, three of them gold.

The 15-year-old Winnetka resident, who competes for the Chicago Dive Club of Evanston, began the summer season qualifying out of USA Diving, junior regional and zone meets held in Brown Deer, Wis., and Columbia, Mo., respectively, to advance to the junior national competitions. USA Diving’s Junior competitions are for divers 18-and-under.

Corboy then proceeded East for the senior USA Diving National Preliminaries Zone A competition held at Virginia Tech, where she paired with Lillian MacRae, a junior at Philips Academy in Andover, Mass., to win first place in the women’s 3-meter synchronized competition. This victory secured an invitation to the National Championships, Aug. 9-14 at UCLA, where they took seventh.

Corboy and MacRae became friends in 2006 while competing for the AAU All-Star Diving Team in Bejing, China, and began diving synchro together last year, winning their first gold medal at the 2010 AAU National Championships in Coral Springs, Fla.

In addition, the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America selected both girls for the 2011 All-America Diving Team.

The Corboy /MacRae team pressed on to Riverside, Calif., for the AAU Diving National Championships. There, they collected the gold medal for their second year in a row in the girls (16 -19) synchronized 3-meter competition, while adding an additional gold medal in the 1-meter. Individually, Corboy brought home a silver medal for the girls (age 16) 3-meter and a bronze for the 1-meter events.

At the USA Diving Junior National Championships and the USA Diving Age Group Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., Corboy finished in the top eight in both the girls (16-18) 3-meter and platform events.
