Cohn, Alma (née Katz) (Died)

Cohn, Alma (nee Katz) June 27, 1918 - August 4, 2011. She was the cherished wife of the late Leonard Cohn. Alma was born in Chicago, and lived in the house her parents built in Winnetka in 1926. She attended New Trier High School. She was a proud graduate of the University of Chicago, from an era when it was unusual for women to attend college. After that, she lived in New York City with her late brother, Edward. It was there that she met her future husband. They were married in New York City in 1958, and moved back to the family's Winnetka house in the 1970s. Alma and Leonard were experienced world travelers, having sailed and flown to Europe many times. They even bought a Citroen car in France and brought it back to the US. They also loved spending winter times in Vermont. Alma was an excellent cook, and they loved entertaining and giving dinner parties. She was the fond aunt of Debbie Katz Knowles (Randy) and David (Catherine) Katz, beloved sister of the late Edward Katz, great aunt of Lauren and Leah Katz, devoted cousin of Richard (Donna) Strauss and Phyllis (Ben) Kaplan, dear friend of Kathleen Dobbler. The family would like to thank Wellspring Personal Care for the wonderful kindness and attention they gave Alma for over 2 years, especially caregivers Maria, Gina, and Faith. Funeral services and entombment have already taken place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie.
