Walter, John Of Northbrook, Illinois passed away peacefully on August 25, 2011 in his daughter's home in Chelsea, Michigan where he spent what ended up to be his last 6 months of life. John loved good company, conversation, food and drink and he enjoyed all of these in full measure right up until his death AT 91 YEARS OF AGE. He was born on October 18, 1919 to John and Marie Kopski of Chicago. He was an only child who showed an early aptitude for music and art. He decided to concentrate on art and became an outstanding commercial artist with magazine illustrations in such publications as Argosy, Colliers, and the Saturday Evening Post in the 1950's. Another of his notable contributions was the illustration of the Dick and Jane reading schoolbook series from the 1960's- 1970's. John had a long productive career, drawing and painting for publication and personal enjoyment until he passed. He was a well loved artist representative with as many as 40 artists in his group, John Walter and Associates. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Lorraine M. Walter nee Sitzmann who passed on December 8, 2009. He was a loving and generous father to his two children, daughter Lynn M. Walter of Chelsea MI (Professor Emerita of Geology, University of Michigan) and son John S. Walter (free lance artist and antiquarian). John also leaves behind a large contingent of relatives from Lorraine's side of the family, many still residing in Dubuque, Iowa. A simple graveside service was held on Monday, August 29 at Sunset Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Northbrook. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Funeral information 847-998-1020.
