During fiscal year 2010 volunteers with CJE SeniorLife donated more than 76,000 hours of their time to helping older adults throughout Chicago and the northern suburbs. That’s the equivalent to more than $1.63 million worth of service to the community.

On May 11 CJE board members and staff honored the dedication and hard work of its volunteers at a luncheon ceremony at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah in Wilmette. More than 250 agency volunteers, board members and staff attended the festivities, which honored eight volunteers for their efforts.

“Our volunteers are a most important component of the operations of CJE. Especially during these still difficult economic times, our volunteers help us to provide needed and extra value services,” said Mark Weiner, CJE SeniorLife president /CEO.

In a special tribute, CJE honored eight volunteers with the Mollie Goldstein Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award, which recognizes agency volunteers – nominated by their peers – who have displayed extraordinary dedication to CJE residents and clients.

The 2011 recipients are Jerry Drazin of Deerfield, Bella Ehrenpreis of Skokie, Bea Mattenson of Skokie, Phillip Medwed of Skokie, Anne Oppenheimer of Chicago, Jeanne Pepper of Skokie, Zena Saporito of Skokie and Adina Weber of Wilmette.

Other officers in attendance included Bruce Lederman, Vice Chair, CJE Board of Directors; Anne Schuman, CJE’s Director of Volunteer Services and Margo Oberman, Chair, CJE’s Volunteer Services Committee.

CJE SeniorLife has more than 1,400 regular volunteers who work with residents at one of the organization’s retirement, assisted living or health care facilities; transport home delivered meals to community residents; assist at adult day services in Evanston; help seniors with transportation services; and provide financial assistance by helping clients organize and pay their bills. Another 4,200 individuals comprise the many groups that volunteer with CJE throughout the year.
