The school gathered almost 100 pairs of shoes in the Nike Re-Use a Shoe Project. Shoes will be used to make “regrind” material for making sports surfaces (tennis courts, tracks, etc.). The Village of Wilmette’s Forestry Department planted a new Redbud Tree in front of the school for Earth Week. Richard Louv (author of Last Child in the Woods will present “The Nature Principle: Human Restoration and the End of the Nature-Deficit Disorder” on 7 p.m. today at Skokie School, 520 Glendale Ave., Winnetka.

Parents can honor a faculty or staff member or an eighth grade graduate with a Certificate of Appreciation from the District 39 Educational Foundation. People can make a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation (minimum online donation $39) and the school will create and deliver a beautiful keepsake certificate for the honoree. For more information, or to order a certificate, go to www.d39foundation.org and look for the Wall of Honor/Certificate of Appreciation links.

Central PTA Board still has a few positions open. To join or for more information, contact Sarina McBride at sarinamcbride@comcast.net.
