Library volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help shelve books at the LMC to prepare for the end of the year. The school would like at least two volunteers a day, one hour each, in May and the first week of June as student checkouts end and the books need to be put back in order. For more information, email Ellen Hummel at efhummel@comcast.net.

Biking Expo

The Wilmette Bicycle Task Force, Go Green Wilmette, and the Wilmette Public Library are co-sponsoring the fourth annual Gear Up for Biking Expo from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Wilmette Library, 1242 Wilmette Ave. This free, family-friendly community event will feature information, handouts and short seminars.

The goal is to increase awareness of cycling opportunities in the Wilmette area and beyond, and to help make Wilmette a bicycle-friendly community. There will be exhibits from local bike stores, bicycle advocacy groups and leaders of organized rides. Everyone is invited for all or part of the afternoon.

Outdoor classroom volunteers

Every day during lunch, students have an opportunity to visit the outdoor classroom as an alternative to the playground. Activities include games, reading, science, cooking, art and hands-on interactions with nature. Parent volunteers are needed to supervise students in the garden from 11:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. every day. Gardening experience is not necessary. To sign up, visit the Highcrest Outdoor Garden website at www.wilmette39.org/highcrest/outdoorclassroom. For more information, contact Cathy Taylor at cathytaylor700@earthlink.net.

Health forms required

Current sixth grade students dental exam forms must be submitted by May 20. Forms can be found on the Highcrest health office’s website or the district’s website.

Parents of current fifth grade students should begin thinking about the necessary health forms that will be due for sixth grade. All incoming sixth grade students must submit proof of a current physical exam and immunizations. The Physical Examination form also has a section called “Health History,” that must be completed by the parent/guardian. Forms will be returned if this section is incomplete. The form is available at the Highcrest health office’s website or the district’s website. Forms may be turned in anytime between now and the start of the 2011-12 school year. For more information, email strunkp@wilmette39.org.

Gift wrap sale

People can still purchase Innisbrook gift wrap and earn 40 percent for the school. Visit www.innisbrook.com. The school ID is 101567. Deals will be available through the end of the school year.
