- Letters of commendation were issued to Stanley Field of Lake Forest, and to Leo Butman, Stewart Grant and Herbert L. Flint of Lake Bluff for their efforts to save survivors when a naval training station cutter capsized near Lake Bluff on Sept. 15. The letters were issued by Acting Secretary of the Navy Beckman Winthrop. Gunner's Mate Walter E. Negus was in charge of the vessel at the time.
