John H. Schaefer, Blu[?] and Ridge avenues, Gross Point, is at the Swedish Covenant Hospital and Home of Mercy, 2749 Foster avenue, Chicago, slowly recovering from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Thursday evening, June 9, on N. Western avenue, near Foster avenue. Attending physicians found it necessary to amputate his left leg above the knee when it was discovered that the member had been almost severed in the crash.

Schaefer, according to witnesses of the accident, was seated on the trundle seat of a speedster car. The driver of the machine, in the effort to avoid collision with an approaching car, turned sharply when the steering "knuckle" broke plunging the machine into the curb. Schaefer, with his feet on the running board on the curbing side, received the brunt of the crash. Two companions practically escaped injury. Exaggerated reports of the accident and the condition of the injured man were put to silence today when it was stated by close friends that Schaefer was resting comfortably and was on the road to recovery.
