- William H. Avery, 87, former partner and chairman of Sidley & Austin, one of the largest law firms in the U.S., died Dec. 12, 1992, at his home in Winnetka. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean; his children Nancy (Paul) Pressler of Houston, Texas, Cameron Avery of Winnetka, and the Rev. Richard Avery of Spokane, Wash; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Winnetka Presbyterian Church on Dec. 15.
